David Stewart and Annie Lennox Turn their "Sweet Dreams" into a #1 Reality

They’ve been working together since 1980, but it’s only in the past few months that David Stewart and Annie Lennox – otherwise known as the Eurythmics – have made themselves known as a first-rate musical force. The British born twosome’s first American album, Sweet Dreams Are Made of This, has gone gold, and the title tune shot straight to the top of the pop and disco charts!

"I knew from the moment we met that I was going to be working with him," says Annie, recalling her 1977 introduction to David. Indeed, the musical match clicked immediately, even though the duo initally worked with another person, Peet Coombes, in a combo called The Tourists. When Peet left the group, David and Annie picked up a synthesizer and perfected their rhythmic sound.

Annie’s vocals and David’s instrumental technique blend together like a dream, and David claims there couldn’t be a better collaboration. "We’re both either leaping around going ‘that’s great, that’s great’ or we’re at each other’s throats going ‘no, no!’ and that incredible caring is what really counts!"
